You will need:
3x Rolling Papers
1x Some paper
I am using Bob Marley rolling papers for this tulip tutorial, they are wider than the average paper. You can use any papers you like but the shape of your tulip will change. You will need around 2 grams of herb to roll a tulip.
The first part of the tulip we will make is the stem, this is going to support the tulip and will not be smokable - so don't put herb in there. The tape shown is optional, if you can find some nice card you might not need to use any tape. In this how to roll a tulip joint tutorial I will be using half a sheet of A4 paper cut in half.
The stem can be any length you want it to be, but on average it will be the length of a standard pencil. Remember that smoke needs to be able to pass through the stem so you need a nice circular roach, Start by giving a tiny angle fold down the edge of the paper then roll it over.
A good rule to keep in mind here is start smooth finish smooth, don't ever rush your roll it should never be a race.
As you can see I have finished smoothly. While reaching for the tape keep light pressure on your stem or it will unravel.
Place the tape in three places, at both ends and in the middle. Make sure that the tape is not tighter than the stem itself, We are not using tape to make the stem tighter, we are using the tape to just hold the stem in position.
Here is the stem of the tulip joint finished. You can now grind all your herb down, as I mentioned earlier you will need around 2 grams for the tulip joint and I do not recommend substituting herb for tobacco.
If you are using Bob Marley rolling papers then take two and stick them together using one of the gum strips, leave the other gum strip untouched and have it at the top as seen in the picture. If you are using slim rolling paper then you should stick three rolling papers together instead of two. You can use just two papers but the tulip will be smaller.
Arrange your rolling papers in front of you will the untouched sticky gum at the top. Take the bottom left corner and bring it up towards the top right corner, you will need to leave the paper level underneath the untouched sticky gum. Depending on the papers you have used there will be excess left, this is fine as we will cut it off with scissors later.
When you have found the sweet spot, make a nice crease.
Now take away the untouched sticky gums virginity and lick all the way down it, stick it down onto the folded over paper as seen in the picture below.
Because I used two Bob Marley rolling papers I have a small bit of excess paper on one side, you may have more, less or it may be level it all depends on the width of rolling papers used.
If you have excess paper on one side then take some scissors and cut it off so that both sides are level.
Now take all your grinded herb and start to drop it into the bottom of the tulip, every time you add some herb make sure you compact it down, we don't want a floppy tulip. You can compact the herb with your finger or the stem we rolled earlier. It is important to get the herb compacted properly.
Leave around the same empty space that i have, We will use this free paper to create an air tight seal around the stem.
Now crumple and slightly twist all the excess paper as I have done.
Create a small gap in the center by opening up the crumpled paper so you can see the herb.
Push the stem through the gap until it reaches the compacted herb, when it hits the herb use a slight twisting motion turning clockwise while giving small pressure, you want to feel the stem go down into the center of the tulip.
Gently place the tulip joint down safely, cut the gum strip off a rolling paper.
Give the gum strip a good lick and then place the first cm on the top as I have, then while guiding the sticky gum slowly turn the stem and tulip round together making sure the sticky gum is wrapping tightly around the tulip and stem, we need to make sure it sticks down tightly as this is going to create an air tight seal between the tulip and stem.
Your tulip is now ready to smoke! When you are ready you can light the tip while puffing on the stem. If you are happy with your tulip then take a clear picture and post it over at our friendly forum.
